Antimicrobial Periodontal Therapy
In some cases of gum disease, mechanical cleaning alone is not enough to eliminate aggressive bacteria deep within the gum pockets. Antimicrobial Periodontal Therapy is an adjunctive treatment used alongside deep cleaning. We may apply localized antibiotic gels or microspheres directly into the infected pockets, or prescribe a specific course of systemic antibiotics based on the severity of the infection. This targeted chemical attack helps to disinfect the tissues that instruments cannot reach and reduces the bacterial load significantly. By combining mechanical removal of tartar with chemical elimination of pathogens, we create the ideal environment for your gums to heal, shrink the pockets, and reattach firmly to the teeth.
