Subgingival Calculus Removal (Deep Scaling)
Subgingival calculus (tartar below the gumline) is the primary cause of gum inflammation and bone loss. Deep Scaling, or Scaling and Root Planing (SRP), is the gold standard non-surgical treatment for periodontitis. Under local anesthesia to ensure your comfort, we use specialized instruments to reach deep below the gums and remove these hardened deposits. The "Root Planing" part of the procedure involves smoothing the rough surfaces of the tooth roots. Bacteria and toxins attach easily to rough surfaces, so smoothing them deters future accumulation and allows the gum tissue to heal and reattach to the clean root. This deep cleaning is the critical first step in halting gum disease and preventing tooth loss.
