Preventive Fillings for Children
Preventive fillings, often called Preventive Resin Restorations (PRR), are a conservative treatment for children who have very early signs of decay in the grooves of their teeth. Unlike a standard filling that requires significant drilling, a PRR involves removing only the tiny spot of decay using micro-abrasion or a very small bur. Once the decay is removed, we fill the cavity and cover the remaining grooves with a flowable sealant material. This hybrid approach stops the cavity in its tracks and seals the rest of the tooth surface against future attacks. It preserves the maximum amount of natural tooth structure while providing robust protection for your child’s developing dentition.
